The Civil War

The American Civil War is, without a doubt, one of the defining and most important events in American history. Though lasting only four years, from 1861–1865, the nature of American politics, society, and economics was drastically altered. The American Civil War is emotional for Americans even today because we recognize these people are brothers, as one group, set apart by differences in social beliefs, political alignment, and economic purpose. Despite what they teach, the reasons for the Civil War are complicated and varied, which makes it such an interesting historical study.
